Welcome to the 2010 season!
Tim and Noreen O’Connell have been farming at our Butternut Farm for 35 years. We begin our season in May with sales of bedding and vegetable plants, summer fresh produce and flowers and end with cut your own Christmas trees. We try to have fresh tomatoes the first week in July.
Our flower, herb, and vegetable plants are grown in large cells to help prevent transplant shock. We look for bedding plants that are uncommon as well as standard favorites. We grow many varieties of vegetables and herbs for patio gardens as well as mixed six-packs for family gardens. We also grow a variety of hanging flower baskets and patio tomato containers.
Our “Cut Your Own” flower garden is a customer favorite. Men, women and children, who always are welcome, come to enjoy the cutting experience. Many visit weekly. Entire wedding parties often come, giving their celebration a personal touch. Mothers of the brides fill their homes with flowers for that special occasion. Be sure to bring your cameras. If you would like more unique photographs, Beth, our friend and neighbor can help you.
Many people like to make their own floral arrangements but others would like assistance. Nancy is an artist and floral designer with some interesting twists for your beautiful arrangements . Both Beth and Nancy are by appointment and charge separately.
Of course, we grow great vegetables. We grow an array of heirloom and ethnic varieties as well as standard favorites. These are listed later on this site. Noreen has just completed a “buyers guide” cookbook to help you select store and use your fresh produce. It will be available at local farm stands and at our farm.
Every year we experiment with new varieties of vegetables and flowers. Many customers visit us for those specific varieties that they cannot find from other growers. We look forward to your visits.
And, we have goats. Priscilla, Helen, Esther, and Dora like meeting new friends.
