About Our Farm

In 1975 Noreen and Tim purchased 20 acres of land on Federal Hill Road in Milford
at the Hollis town line.  The goal was to become a profitable operating farm.  We
chose the name Butternut for the butternut tree, a native walnut that still can be
found in our area (not for the squash).

While still working at our professional careers in dental hygiene and secondary
education we developed the farm and helped initiate farmers’ markets in
Peterborough in 1977 Milford in 1978, Nashua in 1995 and Manchester in 1997.
We are currently members of Milford and Manchester Farmers’ Markets.
The Milford Market is one of the longest continuous market in NH.

We are also committed to our community.  Noreen is currently the Chairwoman of
the Milford Board of Selectmen and has completed a 5 year term on the
Governor’s Agriculture Advisory Committee.  Tim is in his 4th term in the NH Legislature
on the House Environment and Agriculture Committee.  Tim has completed a ten year
term as New Hampshire’s representative to the New England Vegetable and
Berry Growers Association Board of Directors.

We, at Butternut Farm, are proud of our commitment to produce high quality food following the new and traditional farming practices developed by experience and research from our land-grant universities (University of New Hampshire and others)
